On Friday, Tony, Eric and I redeemed the free Jungle Cruise tickets we had earned by eating at Applebee’s. Our friend Velu also decided to join us. (He had to buy his own movie ticket for $15.)
The movie was shown at the Saratoga AMC 14 and started at 6:20pm. Stepping into the AMC, I couldn’t help but compare it to the ShowPlace ICON theater where I watched Black Widow. Not only were there much fewer seats, things were also a lot less fancy. The seats did not recline and had no footrests. They were also made of cloth instead of leather. Anyhow, things were still comfortable enough that I quickly settled in.
The movie itself was alright. My friend Velu described it best when he called it “straightforward.” It was your typical family action movie with an all-is-well ending about a pair of British siblings that head into the Amazon River for a crazy (mis)adventure. Eric claimed it reminded him of Indiana Jones; for me, the final scenes reminded me heavily of Zelda.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson does a good job portraying the Amazon tour guide and somehow manages to pull off all the silly dad jokes and puns assigned to him. (Believe me, there were a LOT.)
Afterwards, all of our stomachs were growling. Tony and Velu got pizza slices at the Pizza My Heart next to the AMC; Eric and I headed across the parking lot and picked up burgers at the Red Robin. All in all, it was a fun Friday night out.
