Morning Throwup, Part 2:

Late Tuesday morning, I came up with the crazy idea that Trader Joe’s apple juice could be to blame. I had bought a 64oz jug recently to mix with my morning aloe vera juice; on all the days the incidents happened, I had drank some beforehand. I took a pause on drinking apple juice. Immediately, some effects started to show. I was able to drink and eat a lot more.

The next day, I tested out a CLIF bar and a banana for breakfast; there was a minimum amount of barfing out afterwards. Unfortunately, that allowed me to become a little too lax. I made the mistake of finishing my bowl of rice / veggies / salmon + banana after my 6pm walk. I was able to swallow everything, but that was not the end of things.

The food formed dry cakes inside my throat, blocking things even more. I had encountered these before in the past (aka the really bad 5/15/22 Tofu Plus incident). Their existence confirmed that my throat was indeed blocked. I spent a good part of the evening drinking hot water in an attempt to break down the dry cakes and spit them out. All that water consumption meant that I had to sleep late in order to let my chest dry out; it was not until 11:30 that I turned off the light.

In the end, apple juice was not responsible for the regurgitation. (Believe me, I even tried drinking some on Wednesday night to stimulate more barfing, but that did not happen.) The main takeaway from this incident is a reminder that throat blocking is even more dangerous than dysphagia.
