At 10:14am on Saturday, I received a call from my friend Eric. The man was craving Vietnamese pho from a restaurant in Milpitas and asked me if I wanted to come along. Last time I ate pho with him, I ordered nothing (the menu was not very compatible with keto), but I agreed to join him nonetheless.
The place that we went to was called New Pho Saigon. It’s located in a plaza near the Great Mall. On the way there, Eric had vast amounts of praise for the noodles, claiming it was his favorite rendition of pho in the Bay Area by far.
We arrived at 11am, just when the shop opened and were the first customers inside the door. Eric got his usual (“#5 Pho Tai Chin”) and I ordered a chicken noodle soup with udon. (The waitress was nice enough to put the udon in a bowl to the side.) Even without the noodles, the meal was quite filling, perhaps because I gorged myself on the mung bean sprouts. (I ate enough to ask for a second plate.)
Afterwards, we walked around the Great Mall for a bit and then grabbed boba drinks at TP Tea in Cupertino. I was feeling curious, so this time I went for one of their coffee drinks (“E3 Tie Guan Yin Tea Coffee Latte”). Mixing coffee and tea might not seem right, but it worked to some extent. However, the tea was mostly an aftertaste, making the drink feel like iced coffee.
PS: checked with my mom who also had pho in Milpitas recently. She went to a different restaurant called Pho Kim Long and she was happy with her meal.
