After years of procrastinating, my parents finally called the tree trimmer. We went for Green Sierra Landscaping, whose services we have used in the past. Tuesday afternoon, the frontman for the trimming stopped by to assess the work needed and name a price. After a bit of negotiating, we agreed to pay for work on the pine tree and our row of Italian cypress trees.
The (very loud) work started early Thursday morning. Originally the plan was to do the trimming on Friday and Saturday, but an earlier spot opened up. Wednesday evening, my parents and I spent time moving the lawn ornaments and decorations out of the front garden. I have to say, some of these lawn ornaments are surprisingly heavy; moving all of them took a fair amount of effort.
The tree trimming finished at around 4pm. My parents were mostly satisfied with the work. Their main complaint was that the pine tree looked a little lopsided from our front door (the right side was higher than the left). The tree trimmer tried to nudge out of it by claiming that this was not the case when viewed from the street. That was true, but we still had them chop off the extra branches.
Overall, the new look of the pine tree is emptier, but nice in its own way. One thing I noticed is that the emptier pine tree no longer attracts as many squirrels. I suppose this is because all the tree sap filled pine cones are now sitting in the compost pile set to be collected on Monday. This is a big boon to my parents, who are annoyed by the cute little critters playing with their garden plants, but somewhat of a loss for me. (For me, watching them run around is kinda fun.)
