When I saw the big sign outside the Baskin-Robbin’s for “Churro Dulce de Leche”, I mistakenly interpreted it as the famed Mexican cinnamon pastry. (I was super excited to have a place closer to home than Jack-in-the-Box or Costco.) Turns out, it was no more than their ice cream flavor of the month for September.
Nevertheless, I decided to give the new flavor a spin. After lunch on the last Sunday of summer 2022, I hiked over to the spot on De Anza and ordered two scoops of the churro flavor inside a plain waffle cone (290cal x2 + 150cal = 730cal). To put it simply, the ice cream was nice, but had nothing that set it apart as a churro. If you handed me a scoop and told me I was eating brown sugar or cookie dough, I wouldn’t bat an eye.
On a related note, gentrification of prices in Cupertino is a big issue; that medium-sized ice cream cone cost me a whopping $8.78. It’s no surprise why Tpumps on De Anza is the most popular spot for high schoolers. Their Daily Specials (aka a deal I discovered recently) allow you to buy a 24oz cup of tea for $2.50 (aka ~1/3 the price of TP Tea down the street). Boba is not included, but you can pay a small fee to get a cup on the side.
