Cicero’s Pizza was a popular destination growing up. Families (especially the Indian ones) loved to host birthday parties and other celebrations there. Even though I’ve been back in San Jose for a decade and have passed by it literally thousands of times, I’ve yet to return.
Last Wednesday I arrived at the pizza parlor around 11:35am. Things inside were quiet and homely. I was heavily reminded of the 90’s. (The outdated arcade machines in the back probably helped.) The only other customer was an old Caucasian man at the bar, nibbling on slices while reading a book and chatting with cashiers. (Later, we were joined by a young Apple team and an old couple.)
I went for a small pizza with the “Cicero’s Special” options: cheese, olives, mushrooms, salami and pepperoni. The lunch special came with a free can of Mountain Dew and took a total of 18min to prepare. Anyhow, I liked my meal. The pizza they serve at Cicero’s has a thin crunchy crust, which I enjoyed a lot. It made the pizza not as heavy and allowed me to finish everything. The mushrooms on top were also nice and juicy.
Compared to my go-to place in Cupertino (aka Legends), the portions are smaller and the prices are (slightly) higher. However, I wouldn’t mind going back, largely thanks to the tasty crust and the location. (Walking takes 32min vs 13min according to Google Maps.)
