After my physical therapist Kelly informed me that 15 minutes of heat daily could have big benefits for my shoulders, I decided to shop around for heating pads online. It was hard deciding between the Sunbeam and the Pure Enrichment (aka the top two products on Amazon) so I asked my mom for help.
She laughed me off and claimed that we already own several. The first that she managed to dig up was the Utaxo heating pad. This flat mat 33” x 17” was a little hard to drape around the shoulders, so I went back to shopping.
The next day (while distracting my dad from his work with petty small talk), I managed to spot a Sunbeam Renue XL hiding in the corner of the master bedroom. With the permission of my parents, I unboxed it and tested it out.
The Sunbeam was easy to use. There are four settings (warm, low, medium, high) that are controlled with a single button. It works while sitting in a chair or on the couch, but I find it most comfortable when lying down. That way, the added pressure on the pads makes the heating much more effective. Truth be told, I haven’t been using it every day, but that’s because it has been freakishly hot lately (last Monday it was 86°F after sunset).
