Velpeau Comfort, Part 1:

My Velpeau Comfort 4” Large arrived Saturday morning. I bought this $15 soft cervical collar to keep my neck straight while sitting and to keep my neck elevated when lying down. The possibility of using it to prevent jaw drops / snoring while sleeping was an added bonus that also factored into my buy.

While it’s true that my Branfit inflatable cushion can perform some of those duties, the fact that it takes so long to pump up makes it a hassle to use. Not to mention, the Branfit does not allow lying down or leaning back when worn (aka practically a requirement when watching long TV shows or movies).

Anyway, the Comfort 4” Large collar was thicker than expected and a little big for my neck. At the tightest Velcro setting without overlap, the collar felt a tad bit loose. When overlap was allowed, it fit well. However, I was afraid an overlapping collar would cause uneven pressures to be applied when lying down.

After some internal debating, I ordered the Comfort 4” Medium as a replacement. It was not an easy decision because my 13” neck circumference just happens to be in between the recommended range of the two (Medium = 11.5” to 13.25”, Large = 13.25” to 16.5”).

The medium Velpeau arrived Sunday morning while I was collapsing cardboard boxes in the front yard. As soon as the Amazon delivery man left, I unboxed it and put it on. Immediately there was no doubt that the medium was a much better fit compared to the large. That very night, I reboxed the large and filed for a return.
