A narrower keyboard really helps a lot. Testing out the Microsoft Designer keyboard stressed out my shoulders a whole bunch in April. Switching back to the Velocifire helped, but things were never the same.
The other day, I tried out my dad’s Logitech K380. Within a few days, my shoulders felt stronger. I no longer had to resort to using a fanny pack and was able to stick things into my pockets again.
At first, I was confused. However, upon closer examination, I could see where the K380 differs. The arrow keys of the K380 sit under the “Shift” key; on normal keyboards (like the Velocifire), the arrow keys have their own space off to the side, which adds about 3–4”. My MacBook Pro’s keyboard is a similar size and setup to the K380, but the built-in speakers add just under an inch.
The MacBook Pro keyboard does feel nicer to type on and has a a trackpad, but switching laptops around (for work and play) is annoying. Overall, I’m happy enough to keep using the K380.
