A common treatment suggested for paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea is to sleep with your head propped up high. With that in mind, I decided to start raising my Mellow Genie bed once again.

Sleeping with the bed head elevated meant that I had to make changes in my sleep gear. I did manage to sleep a few nights with my ComfortFit Curved, but the height of the pillow combined with the raised bed felt a little too much. Before long, I started looking into other options:

  • Pillows = Beautyrest Black, Posturepedic Outlast, Smylls U-pillow, Sagino Plush Down
  • Neck support = Rolled towel, Velpeau soft cervical collar
  • Adjustable bed = Zero-G mode, Raised head only

Over the years, choosing the right pillow has been a major source of frustration for me. Having to go through yet another search was a big bother.

After trying out many of the different combinations, I briefly settled on using the Velpeau collar without a pillow. The Velpeau collar held its place for approximately a week and a half. However, a very comfortable nap on Monday, October 18th with the Beautyrest Black tempted me to give it another try. That switch did not last for long, but it did re-open my search for the best. At the time of writing, I still haven’t completely settled on what to use.

PS: even the ComfortFit Curved might get another chance. When I tried it again last Wednesday, I realized that I might have been too quick to judge.
